Context
Solo designer and developer. Created the framework, wrote all content, designed the quiz experience, and built the full stack.
The problem
Facilitators know they have a "style" but can't articulate it. They default to the same techniques regardless of context — the high-energy person always brings high energy, even when the room needs space. The structured person always runs tight agendas, even when emergence would serve the group better.
Without language for their defaults, they can't intentionally flex. And they can't explain to a co-facilitator why they naturally handle certain moments differently.
What I designed
While building the Coach app, I conducted extensive research on facilitation styles, so we created a quiz as a quick, fun way to test it. A facilitation personality framework with 5 DNA profiles, a scenario-based quiz, and personalized growth recommendations.
Key design decisions:
Scenario-based questions, not self-assessment. Instead of "Rate your time management 1-5," the quiz puts you in a real facilitation moment: "A rich discussion is running 10 minutes over with three agenda items left. What's your instinct?" Each answer maps to a skill score, not a label. Your profile emerges from the pattern.
15 questions, 5 skill dimensions. 3 questions per dimension (Time Management, Engagement, Energy, Adaptability, Clarity). Quick quiz is 10 questions for the primary type; full assessment is 27 for the primary + secondary type with detailed skill scores.
Primary + secondary typing. Most facilitators aren't one thing. "You're an Energizer with Connector tendencies" is more useful than a single label. The secondary type is your stretch zone — accessible but not automatic.
Growth edges, not weaknesses. Each profile's development area is framed as a specific, small behavioral change: "pause 3 seconds longer" rather than "improve your listening skills." Actionable on Monday morning.
Co-facilitation compatibility. Each profile page explains how to work with every other type: "With Architects, let them own the agenda — you own the vibe."
The quiz experience
Illustrated cards for each question. Select an answer, see the next scenario. Results page shows your profile with a radar chart of 5 skill scores, your superpower, growth edge, best workshop types, exercises that play to your strengths, and ideal co-facilitation pairings.
How it connects
The DNA profile feeds into the AI Facilitation Coach. During live sessions, the coach tailors its suggestions to your facilitation style — an Energizer gets different intervention recommendations than a Sage for the same situation. Reflection mode tracks skill development across sessions against your DNA baseline.
What shipped
Quiz engine, 5 illustrated profile pages, skill scoring system, profile results with radar visualization, and integration with the coaching system's reflection and synthesis features.
